(From their website) "The Taco Guild building has a rich and well-documented history. Nineteen years before Arizona became the 48th state in the union, the parcel of land was purchased from Mr. and Mrs. George and Edna Smith for $30 to build a church. At the time of construction in 1893, the church was called Smith’s Chapel and was an evolution of a one-room schoolhouse named Osborn School. When the new church opened one year later, the name changed to Bethel Methodist Church, honoring Mrs. Smith’s home church in Illinois. It retained that name until 2012 when the property was vacated and deconsecrated. Commemorating the accomplishment, cornerstones were laid in 1893 and 1955, both of which are a part of the redeveloped structure."

(From website) "In the winter of 1938, 70-year-old Frank Lloyd Wright purchased 160 acres at the foot of the McDowell Mountains in present-day Scottsdale to transform into his winter home and studio. Inspired by the southwestern landscape, Wright sought a ‘nobly simple’ architecture in Taliesin West. Primitive but elegant, Taliesin West’s monumental masonry feels as much an ancient ruin unearthed from the Sonoran desert, as the twentieth-century icon of modern architecture that it has become. Wright’s winter camp expanded over the years to include studios, and residential, dining, and performance spaces, all which served the active community of the Fellowship."

(From azcentral.com) The classically styled marquee and Spanish Revival architecture make it one of Phoenix's most iconic buildings. Here are some cool tidbits about downtown's Orpheum Theatre. 1. The Orpheum cost $750,000 to build from 1927-29. Adjusted for inflation, that's the equivalent of over $10.2 million today. 2. The seats in the upper level are original. 3. The completed Orpheum Theatre opened its doors on Jan. 5, 1929, just a few months before the stock market crash that plunged the country into the Great Depression. 4. The Orpheum, under many owners, has had different names over the years, including the Paramount and Palace West. 5. There is a Wurlitzer organ in the wings, similar to the one that served as the soundtrack for silent films. If you take the tour, a staff member will play it for you. 6. For much of its history, the Orpheum was also a movie theater. Initially, it screened "talkies" such as "I'm No Angel," starring Mae West. West came to the Orpheum to promote the film in 1933.
