Bathurst, with its wonderful store of 19th-century architecture, is an attraction in its own right, too. Feel free to take a spin around the Mount Panorama race circuit. Don’t exceed the speed limit, though — it’s a public road.

Just a ten minute drive from Kilbeggan Cottage is the amazing new Mayfield Garden, reckoned to be the biggest privately owned cool-climate garden in the world. The gardens are now open 363 days a year and include a nursery, produce store, music festivals, and The Mayfield Kitchen Café which serves delicious local produce and fantastic coffee.

Evans Crown is less than 30 minutes' drive from Kilbeggan, just outside the village of Tarana and is a nature reserve comprising 425 hectares with spectacular granite formations. Climb the walking track to the summit at Crown Rock which is 1104 metres above sea level and affords stunning views across the Tarana valley.

The Oberon Visitor Information Centre is open from 9.30am - 5.00pm 7 days per week.
