Beautiful mature woodland with river situated in the ruins of an old Anglo-Irish family’s estate. Great for exploring. It’s hilly with a couple of climbs but it doesn’t have to be too strenuous. It can get muddy so wear suitable footwear. There are swings over the river for kids. It’s possible to walk directly from here via Cruagh cemetery but it can take a while and the road can be busy. Otherwise drive to the Hell Fire Car Park and walk back down the road to the entrance. A loop of the forest takes about an hour but smaller and longer walks are possible.
