How about learning to sail? I haven't done this yet with my boys but aim to soon. The boys grandad was in the navy. He sailed on a boat called the destroyer mainly around the Mediterranean and Gibraltar. The longest they spent without seeing land was 3 weeks . They slept in hammocks. They used to dock at Dover on a Friday, hitch to Euston station, central London, sleeping overnight there. Hitch / train back to Yorkshire Saturday morning . To spend one night with parents and wife. Before reversing the process on Sunday to get back to the ship for Monday 9am !
