Herty Field was the original on-campus playing venue for football and baseball at the University of Georgia. It opened in the Fall of 1891 and hosted the first UGA home football game against Mercer University on January 30, 1892.

This is the location of UGA's very first football game (against Mercer). Fun fact: our mascot at the time - a goat. The team realized they needed a mascot right before the game started. As Athens was still primarily a farm town in those days someone ran to a farm and grabbed a goat. Herty Field is an iconic UGA campus spot with a fountain and beautiful grassy area. It is close to the Arch, to downtown and the Chapel Bell.

Herty Field, also known as Alumni Athletic Field,[1] was the original on-campus playing venue for football and baseball at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia. It opened in the Fall of 1891 and hosting the first UGA home football game against Mercer University on January 30, 1892.
