Chauvigny had a beautiful old fort which houses a spectacular display of birds of prey. The show has these beautiful birds flying right over your heads. It also has a lovely center full of places to eat and there is a brocante held here one Sunday a month.

Excellent large outdoor market every Saturday, that leaves the afternoon free to explore the castle, the lovely cobbled streets, bars, creperies and restaurants. Quaint little pottery shops and art galleries dot the old town and a must see is the birds of prey exhibition in the castle amphitheatre.

Chauvigny is a beautiful old city, on the river Gartempe. It has a spectacular set of ruins perched on a rock with panoramic views across the countryside. From here, there are daily exhibitions of bird flight - eagles soaring above, vultures, owls, parrots - even kookaburras - all perfectly trained and shown at an amphitheatre in the ruined castle. In the city itself, there are shops and restaurants and a market twice a week. Also a velo-rail: a 2 hour trip of 17 kms through pretty countryside.
