Gorgeous Colonial Hotel, we love the Sunday Brunch by the Pool with live Jazz Band, sumptuous buffet, paying for lunch allows you to swim too. The beach is crowded on Sundays so this is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.

Occupying an 1806 mansion on a promontory overlooking the Laccadive Sea, this striking hotel is a 4-minute walk from the Mount Lavinia railway station, and 4 km from the National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka. The traditional rooms come with minibars, free Wi-Fi and flat-screens, as well as wood floors. Upgraded rooms add private balconies with sea views, and suites have living rooms and dining areas. It is a beautiful story about British governor's love life with a local dancer. The tunnel and underground bedroom they used to secretly meet is still intact. The story is depicted by beautiful paintings on the wall. Worth watching. All this is free, no entrance fee. This place also owns a picturesque private beach which is bonus. Private beaches are very rare in the world!
