The "main square" is home to the ruins of the Santiago Apostol Church which is one of the many attempts to build a church here. Earthquakes in past decades always demolished uncompleted churches.

This romanic style XIX century temple damaged by the 1910 earthquake is the heart of Cartago, it has a small mithical park inside, great for reading and picture sessions, open during the morning.
