We rented to property for the weekend of March 12-15. We were traveling to follow the University of Buffalo on their lacrosse trip. This is the weekend COVID-19 caused everything to shut down. At the behest of the Gov. of NY, the trip was cancelled. (NCAA basketball tournament and all other college sports were also cancelled. Also, the WHO and CDC advised those with immune problems to not travel and stay home. I happen to have 5 autoimmune diseases and thought it wise to follow the recommendations of the WHO and CDC and not travel by plane to Nashville. I was unable to get in touch with the host immediately. I was unable to cancel the reservation on the site because it was not permitted. I tried to change the trip to just one night - Airbnb site allowed and said I would be refunded 50%. Host disallowed. Airbnb issued guideline for refunds in this situation. I met TWO of the allowed reasons to cancel. Airbnb refused to refund. I contacted Airbnb and the host to advise that I in fact, did qualify under their extenuation circumstances / COVID-19 refund policy. Again, I was refused. This will be the last time I book with Airbnb since they do not stand by their policy and have committed a breach of contract. I wonder how many others have been similarly refused refunds when they are qualified for a refund.
