Family of three generations stayed 9 nights. Historical, centrally-located, ground level canal house apt exactly as the photos: spotless; well-equipped kitchen; large washroom with ample hot water; strong, reliable Wifi; comfortable single and double beds with nice linens and good pillows. Size perfect for us and allowed us each a space for ourselves. Watching the boat traffic on the canals was a delight. Front door is heavy and a bit finicky with the key, but be patient. Foyer art introduced us to the character of the house right away. Proactive, responsive, helpful communication. Earlier check in much appreciated. Thanks to Micol for her warm welcome and to Frans for EVERYTHING he did for us before, during, and after – definitely a great host. Many choices for local food and drinks in walking distance. Being in the centre = LOUD DISTURBANCES every weekend. Light sleepers need noise cancelling earplugs. PLEASE don’t let this deter you from staying at the amazing H401.

We stayed for 9 nights which gave us time to explore the city well +take some day trips to Haarlem and to the Old Dutch villages-worth the time to do. The location is very walkable to all the museums, a few blocks from the flower market, some excellent restaurants close by - we totally enjoyed Sampurna and Johannes. For local food and drinks, you'll find many choices every direction you walk from this apt. The canals are busy - there's a constant flow of boat traffic during the day but slows down at night. You can hear some outside noise here but not disruptive at all. We had one canal ride-we got to see canals from a different angle + interesting perspective of the city. Highly recommend as we noticed some features of buildings we hadn't noticed when walking. We used the trams and metro sometimes to explore further afield.Frans gave us an insightful tour of Herengracht 401, full of history +thought provoking esp after visit to Anne Frank House and resistance museum. Thank you Frans!

Beautiful place to stay, close walk to everything we wanted to do.

I stayed for a month, and the apartment was great. It was so lovely to sit at the open windows overlooking the canal, the bed was very comfortable, I had everything I needed, and it's a short bike ride to anywhere. The tour of the upstairs was fascinating!

Good to know:
Part of the beauty of this place is that it's near the center, in the old section. That means there are canals everywhere, it has tons of character and history, and it's easy to get anywhere on foot or by bike. It also means that it is near a touristy area. Don't let that stop you! I don't like the hordes of tourists at all, but I was happy here. I simply rode a few blocks away at the busiest times to escape. And Herengracht itself in front of the building isn't crowded. Sure, canal tour boats glide by, but they're fun to watch.

The couch is comfy, the chairs are less so, but two people can enjoy the couch.
The kitchen is a little bit worn, but it was clean and served my purposes (I did not cook).

I would return!
