Great beautiful cosy spacious house in the middle of a pittoresk small town. We loved staying there. 40 minutes by car to Gorge de Loup station in Lyon (easy parking) and from there a metro (just 1 stop and you are in the old town). The French are known in Europe to be not the friendliest, but Bessenay is filled with very kind helpful people. We had a little bad luck with the heatwave so it was too hot everywhere we went, and there is not a lot of water recreation close by. We found a pool in the next village, and some natural swimming area and a lake both at 1 h by car. I can imagine with better temperatures it's the best place for hiking and cycling. Food all over is fresh and very tasty and from the surrounding farmers. We would love to come back in another season to be a bit more active because the scenery and the landscapes are beautiful!
