He is the founding director of FNPF, and holds other directorships including with Yayasan Bebali, which works with traditional cultural revitalisation, and previously with the Begawan Foundation, where he oversaw the program breeding the critically endangered Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi) and their subsequent release by FNPF onto Nusa Penida. I just love this place! Today I went to Bali Zoo and after being in Bali Rescue Center, it just made me sad. Animals acting to get food? That is just wrong. But in Bali Rescue Center? It is something awesome and completely different! You can really help animals, clean their habitats, feed them, learn about them. No tourist traps where every single activity costs money. And you will also learn stories of those animals who live in Center, meet new people, because a lot of young people volunteer there (Germany, Canada, Swiss, Australia...). Staff is super nice and kind, they will even ask you if you want something to eat and they would bring it to you. So if you want non traditional and rare experience, definitely try it!

There are a few pros and cons about this experience. Regarding the experience itself: it was horribly hard to find the location. I did not know whom to contact and Google maps is just horrible in this area. We found it simply by accident after having already given up on ever finding it.
The experience itself was, well, in some way exactly what it says. You go there to volunteer for a day - which is fabulous, but, considering that we paid them, it felt wrong. I was told to clean the driveway with a broom, which has nothing to do with helping animals - if I were a volunteer, I would have had no problem with that. But I paid to be there, so I would have expected a little more animal contact or at least some information about the animals. We left after 1.5 hours because it was simply too hot and uninteresting.
The good part was: while driving our scooter there, we rescued a puppy off the streets and someone there said he had a friend who will take care of it. That made the whole thing a lot better.
