2025. áprilisPurna is simply amazing host who will arrange everything you need: trek, guide, porters, tickets, permits. But as well he’s open hearted traveler, who can tell you a lot about Nepal
The place - is a hidden gem in a remote village, where nothing can distract you from the silence and the mountains.
Special thanks to the local guy Gau who cooked everyday very simple but very tasty local cuisine.

2024. decemberI had the best, most relaxing, time at Mahakuruna! I was doing a mix of working, hiking, relaxation. The place has a very nice construction, is tastefully decorated, and has nice additions like a wood fire and bath for if it gets a bit chilly. The view from the front door is also spectacular.
Honestly, something that made the trip super simple and really elevated it was using Arun there (probably the only airbnb that comes with a chef 😆). All of the meals he cooked were both very healthy and delicious. I enjoyed every one.
Walking down into the valley via all the villages was great. I would also recommend the hike up to Pitam Deurali that takes about 4hrs round trip. Add on Australian base camp too if you want to hike a bit longer, but be sure to take the route avoiding Pothana though, as there is a permit checkpoint there. I'm by no means advocating to skip getting a permit - if you wish to hike further afield, definitely get one! (from KTM or Pokhara in advance)

2023. decemberThis place is pretty much otherworldly. It transcends any AirBnB experience I've ever had. There is majestic and incomprehensible beauty here that I could not wrap my mind around. It is surrounded by a pristine and abundant wilderness that one can't help but recognize as sacred. Up above, Tanchowk Village is a historical and fascinating relic that was surreal to see. There are amazing vistas up there along with a delightful museum. Mahakaruna also offers the wonderful addition of the chef, Gauman, who catered to our every need and fixed us delicious Nepali cuiside whenever we requested - sometimes 3 times a day. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this place is a treasured and unforgettable experience that I will reflect on often. During the hustle and bustle of my life in the Western world, I'll think of my time there and remember to slow down and meditate on the absolute beauty we found there.

2023. októberA friend and I stayed there for ten days.
The place is a proper retreat, the whole experience was lovely, and the views breathtaking - especially in the morning (we were there in mid-October and had a clear view of the mountains until 11am-ish, after which regularly clouds emerged). The place is remote but close enough for day trips (which all require an easily arranged taxi).
Walking-wise, the place allows for short and long hikes and runs, lasting minutes to hours.
To make it a great stay, it requires some preparation but it is definitely worth the hustle.
Purna was very responsive and friendly, and we enjoyed the three daily meals our cook Gauman prepared, who took good care of our vegetarian preferences.
There is no wifi and the NCell (local phone company) hotspot worked only some of the times (and best outside on the terrace). But do go there if you want to immerse yourself in the Himalayas, enjoy a friendly local community, but do not want to miss out on certain luxuries.
