I just loved this. We had so much fun learning about the Oaxacan traditions around candles and then trying our hand at making our own. Our host was charming and patient and the vibe of the place was fun and creative. Highly recommend! I work for Airbnb so I go on a lot of experiences, but this one stood out.

If you love Mexican floral candles, you have to go to this experience! It was fun to try to make wax flowers, it was harder than it looks! And was great to design our own angle. Through the workshop we learned a bit about local culture around candles as well. The best part in a way was to be able to shop in their store at the end and meet the matriarch behind it all who is very charming!

This experience was magical, and I learned much more than just the wonderful art of candle making in Teotitlán del Valle. Our talented host, Guillermina, welcomed us with a great sense of humor and patiently showed us how to make our own candles while sharing stories about the customs and traditions behind some of the most beautiful candles in the world. We also had the chance to meet Doña Viviana, who belongs to the third generation of her candle-making family and presides over the workshop. This is a truly expressive experience and a wonderful way to learn about candle making as well as Zapotec traditions and values. It's a great activity for families and kids, too!
